New Tudor Black Bay Pro

Fernando Aldea

Tudor presents a new technical model with an exclusive aesthetic. Dubbed the Black Bay Pro, it has a 39 mm diameter, a fixed steel bezel, and a Manufacture Caliber with integrated GMT function.

The Black Bay Pro is a completely new model with a dual time zone function, a technical complication that simultaneously displays the local time and the time of another time zone. Compact, robust, and sporty, this model features many exclusive aesthetic details and celebrates the spirit of the technical watches that Tudor has produced for professionals throughout its history. Recognizable by its fixed, graduated, satin-brushed bezel and yellow 24-hour "Snowflake" hand, the Black Bay Pro is powered by the Tudor Manufacture Calibre MT5652 with an integrated GMT function.

Key elements

Tudor Black Bay Pro • 39 mm diameter satin-finished and polished steel case, with a fixed 24-hour graduated steel bezel.

• Manufacture calibre MT5652, COSC certified, with silicon balance spring, 70-hour power reserve.
• Three bracelet designs to choose from: black jacquard weave, hybrid rubber and leather, or 316L steel with studs and a Tudor "Tfit" quick-adjust clasp.
• Five-year transferable warranty with no registration or maintenance required.

Adventurous spirit and technical aesthetics

Tudor Black Bay Pro Throughout their history, Tudor watches have accompanied some of the most daring adventurers, such as the 30 explorers who embarked on the two-year British North Greenland Expedition exactly 70 years ago to study the Arctic ice, wearing Tudor watches on their wrists. Hans Wilsdorf , the brand’s founder, provided watches for the expedition members. He had just created the first waterproof self-winding Tudor watch, the Oyster Prince model, and could not conceive of a better environment in which to put it to the test than the extreme Arctic climate. The Black Bay Pro model reflects the heritage of those instruments used by pioneering explorers. This is a tool watch designed for professional use. Although this model is part of the Black Bay line, it introduces many new and exclusive aesthetic details, starting with its crown, which has been completely redesigned for greater grip. Reminiscent of the curves of the crowns of the brand's historic technical watches, this new component is fixed at the level of the case band so that its tube is not visible. In another new feature, the applied hour markers on the dial are crafted from luminous monobloc ceramic. This feature enhances the technical aesthetic of the Black Bay Pro while significantly increasing the luminous surface of the hour markers. A new bracelet clasp, featuring Tudor's "Tfit" quick size adjustment system, completes the list of new features included in this model. The easy-to-use "Tfit" system, which offers five tool-free positions, allows the wearer precise and instant adjustment of up to 8 mm on the clasp.

Dual time zone

On the Black Bay Pro model, the reference time is indicated by an angular yellow "Snowflake" hand, a Tudor aesthetic signature, which completes a revolution around the dial every 24 hours. Local time is indicated by a shorter "Snowflake" hand, which is set using the jumping hour function in both directions. The date, displayed in an aperture at 3 o'clock, is linked to the local time hand so that when the time is set and midnight passes retrograde, it instantly jumps to the previous day. A highly unusual, sophisticated, and especially practical function for the wearer.

Manufacturing Caliber MT5652

For the Black Bay Pro model, Tudor developed the Manufacture Calibre MT5652 with an integrated GMT function. It illustrates Tudor's proprietary technological development process, integrating new functions into its Manufacture movements using a flexible architecture rather than adding additional modules. This detail, small for some, is almost a must for watchmaking purists.

Its design guarantees strength, longevity, reliability, and precision, as does its variable inertia balance wheel, held by a robust cross-bridge with two fixing points. Together with its non-magnetic silicon balance spring, the Manufacture Caliber MT5652 is certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), and its performance exceeds the standards set by this independent institute. In fact, although the COSC permits an average variation in a watch's daily running time of between -4 and +6 seconds relative to absolute time in a single movement, Tudor insists on achieving a variation of -2 +4 seconds in its running time when fully assembled.

Another notable feature is that the power reserve of the Manufacture Calibre MT5652 can last through any weekend, reaching approximately 70 hours. This allows the wearer to take it off on a Friday afternoon and put it back on Monday morning without having to reset it.

Steel bracelet or jacquard weave strap or leather strap

Tudor Black Bay Pro The fabric strap is one of Tudor's distinctive features, and in 2010, it was one of the first watch brands to offer it with its products. This strap, which Julien Faure 's company produces using a traditional method on 19th-century Jacquard looms in the Saint-Étienne region of France, offers extraordinary build quality and comfort. In 2020, Tudor celebrated the tenth anniversary of its collaboration with Julien Faure, a company with a 150-year tradition. The collaboration began with the launch of the Heritage Chrono at Baselworld 2010. It was the first model with a handcrafted fabric strap. The Black Bay Pro model features a black strap with a yellow band chosen by Tudor and woven by the artisans at the loom. A version of this model is also available with a steel bracelet inspired by the folded-leaf-link and rivet bracelets produced by Tudor in the 1950s and 1960s. These were known for having the rivet heads for securing the links visible on the side of the bracelet. The links also featured a distinctive stepped structure. Both of these aesthetic details can be seen in the current bracelet, which also combines modern manufacturing methods with solid links and laser-finished rivet heads. Finally, the Black Bay Pro is also available with a hybrid woven strap in black rubber and leather with a folding clasp.
